The Cohort Default Rate Guide (Guide) is a comprehensive publication that presents information on cohort default rates for schools participating in the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program and the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program. Default Prevention and Management previously provided the Guide twice a year with the draft and the official cohort default rates. This new Guide, published August 2001, is considered the permanent version and any change to its content will be described only on the “change page information” area of this web site. The Guide incorporates the new cohort default rate regulations published July 1, 2001. |

Default Prevention and Management provided a hardcopy of this Guide to each school as an enclosure to the FY 1999 cohort default rate notification package that was mailed on September 17, 2001. Schools, Data Managers and other users should routinely check the “change page information” area of this web site for official content changes. This guide is available in two formats: The Cohort Default Rate Guide Quick Reference presents some of the key elements of the Guide in a more informal manner to give schools a summary of what they should do during the draft and official cohort default rate cycles. You will need Acrobat Reader to view and/or print these files. If you do not already have it on your computer, click the picture to download this free application. For prior year draft and/or official Cohort Default Rate Guides, please refer to the Archive Section of this web site. U.S.
