Summary: This letter announces Federal Student Aid’s instructor-led, online training sessions on Direct Loan processing for graduate/professional schools.

Dear Colleague:

We are pleased to announce instructor-led, online training for graduate/professional schools on the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program. Two webinars will be offered related to key aspects of Direct Loan processing. Each webinar is designed for financial aid staff at graduate/professionals schools that are new to the Direct Loan Program. We will present this information in two 90-minute sessions and will offer each session on two different days to provide ample opportunity for those interested in attending.

The webinar “Direct Loan Basics for New Participants” provides basic information for staff at graduate/professional schools that are new to the Direct Loan Program. Topics include promissory notes, credit checks, loan origination, disbursement, funding, reconciliation, and Direct Loan resources. Key aspects of loan servicing will also be discussed, as well as information for the 2010-2011 Award Year. This webinar will be offered:

  • Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)
  • Tuesday, March 30, 2010, 10:00 A.M. (ET)

The webinar “Using the COD Web Site To Assist In Direct Loan Processing” provides an overview of the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System Web site for staff at graduate/professional schools that are new to both the Direct Loan Program and the COD System. Participants will become familiar with using the COD Web site for Direct Loan processing, including how to use the Web site to resolve processing issues, to search for and view electronic Master Promissory Notes (eMPNs), and more. This webinar will be offered:

  • Thursday, March 18, 2010, 3:00 P.M. (ET)
  • Thursday, April 1, 2010, 10:00 A.M. (ET)
