Summary: Advertising the U.S. Department of Education's New FAFSA Express Software and Poster

Dear Colleague:

Enclosed is a copy of our FAFSA Express poster advertising the U.S. Department of Education's new FAFSA Express software. Please display the poster in an area that is frequently trafficked by your students so that they can learn about and take advantage of this new easy-to-use software.

FAFSA Express is a faster, easier way for students to apply for federal student financial aid. It is a free Windows-based computer program with easy-to-follow screens that resemble the paper Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The 1997-98 version of FAFSA Express has several new features, including a "save-to-disk" option, making it even easier to use.

The electronic application process is faster and results in fewer applicant errors because FAFSA Express has built-in edits and instructions. After completing the application, a student transmits the data directly to the federal processor using a standard modem.

You may order up to five additional copies of the poster by contacting our Federal Student Aid Information Center at:

1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243)

As indicated on the poster, FAFSA Express can be downloaded from the World Wide Web. The address is:

www.ed.gov/offices/OPE/express.html

Thank you for helping us in our efforts to improve and simplify the student aid application process.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth M. Hicks
