Institutional Accreditation for Distance Learning Programs

Summary: The purpose of this letter is to provide all institutions with a copy of a letter that has been sent to institutions we have identified whose primary accrediting agency does not have distance education within its scope of recognition.

Dear Colleague:

We recently sent the attached letter to institutions that, according to our current records, rely for Title IV student aid purposes, on an accrediting agency that does not have distance education in its scope of recognition. The letter contains information about the accreditation requirement for participation in the Federal student aid programs and actions those institutions may need to take if they offer distance education programs. Institutions that have not received a copy of this letter directly from the Department do not need to take any action at this time. This letter is being shared solely for informational purposes.

Sincerely,

James F. Manning
