The Office of Federal Student Aid is adjusting the XML implementation schedule.  This letter announces these adjustments.

Dear Colleague:

 

The Office of Federal Student Assistance (FSA) has revised the implementation plan to align the Common Record: COD schema to align with the community standard and implement the Common Record: ISIR for 2005-06.  Because FSA needs to implement these changes in the most efficient way possible with the least impact to our customers, FSA will not be able to make these changes in 2005-06.  We will keep you informed of future implementation dates as we move forward. 

 

FSA remains committed to XML as an effective tool to meet the current and future business needs of FSA, schools and the community.  FSA realizes that a large benefit of XML is the creation and adoption of a community based XML standard.  In addition, XML technology is the foundation for the shared services outlined in the Data Strategy Initiative. 

 

FSA actively supports the XML Standard for Higher Education and our development partners, the Postsecondary Electronic Standards Council (PESC) and the National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs (NCHELP).  We are pleased by the release of the Academic Transcript Schema and the Common Record: CommonLine. 

 

FSA stands firm in the following implementation plans:

 

·        All schools are required to be full participants using the Common Record: COD for 2005-06. 

·        The XML Registry and Repository for the Education Community will be released in the next couple of months. 

 

FSA is fully committed to community standards, which benefit all of us in the aid community.  We look forward to the continuation of this endeavor.
