Subject: G5 Web Site Unavailable January 23, 2012

Today, January 23, 2012, the G5 Web site has been and remains unavailable due to system maintenance work that was not able to be completed during the regular weekend maintenance window. As a result, users are not able to access the G5 Web site to conduct any transactions. The Department of Education (the Department) is working to complete its work and restore normal operations as soon as possible. We will keep the community informed of the Web site’s status through subsequent announcements on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site.

During this outage, schools will not be able to draw down funds during this period for the following Title IV Programs:

  • Federal Pell Grant (Pell Grant)

  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

  • Federal Work Study (FWS)

  • Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant

  • Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant (TEACH Grant)

  • William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan)

COD System Processing Impact

The Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System will accept Pell Grant, Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant, TEACH Grant, and Direct Loan records. However, Current Funding Level (CFL) changes (as a result of actual disbursements) and funding will not be processed by G5 until the system maintenance is completed.

Note: Drawdown and refunds of cash transactions made on or before Friday, January 20, 2012 may still be in process and will be updated in G5 and the COD System once the G5 system maintenance is completed.
