Summary: Upcoming SAIG Message Class File Update
Posted on 09-12-2008
On September 19, 2008, Federal Student Aid will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with your next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.
Federal Student Aid will add message classes for the Central Processing System (CPS) and the Financial Management System (FMS) to the message class table.
CPS Message Classes
Federal Student Aid will add the CPS 2009-2010 Rollover Message Classes to the message class table. These message classes are the standard CPS message classes rolled over from the previous cycle to the 2009-2010 cycle and will be fully outlined in the final 2009-2010 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference posted in October 2008. The final 2009-2010 EDE Technical Reference will be posted on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, located at https://fsadownload.ed.gov, in the "Technical References and Guides" section.
Note: The CPS 2009-2010 message classes are being added early for application system testing only. If you use these message classes to send records prior to January 1, 2009, the records will not be processed.
FMS Message Classes
Federal Student Aid will add two new FMS message classes to the message class table. These new FMS message classes will be used by a FFEL Program servicer to report loan purchases.
The message classes are as follows:
Update, Import, and Installation Information
The message class table update will be transparent to you except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on your screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.
The new message class table file will also be available on the FSAdownload Web site in the "Software and Associated Documents" section.
Using Multiple Networked PCs
If you have performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on your network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.
Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs
If you are using the current version of EDconnect (version 7.2), the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
