Information Request to Ensure Access to FSA Systems and Websites

We have recently implemented new cybersecurity measures to further protect critical student data and ensure the security of Federal Student Aid (FSA) systems and websites. As a result of these changes, authorized users at some Title IV institutions were temporarily blocked from accessing FSA systems and websites.

For each impacted institution, we resolved the situation by adding the institution’s range of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to a list of trusted IP addresses (a “whitelist”). If you believe your institution’s access to FSA systems and websites has been blocked and the issue is not yet resolved–or for any new case of apparent blocking–please report the incident immediately to EDSOC@ed.gov and FSASchoolCyberSafety@ed.gov. You will receive a response from EDSOC@ed.gov confirming receipt of the issue, followed by communications from the team at EDSOC@ed.gov or at FSASchoolCyberSafety@ed.gov as we work to resolve the incident.

We continue to closely monitor the situation and are committed to quickly resolving access issues for authorized users.

Request for Information by August 1, 2019

We would like to expand our whitelist of institutional IP addresses to ensure all authorized users are able to access FSA systems and websites and are not inadvertently blocked in the future.

To assist us in this effort, we request that each institution send the following information to FSASchoolCyberSafety@ed.gov by August 1, 2019:

  • Name of Institution

  • Address of Institution

  • Office of Postsecondary Education Identifier (OPEID)

  • List or Range of IP Addresses Used by Institution

  • Information Technology (IT) Contact at Institution (Name, Email, Phone Number)
