Subject: EDExpress for Windows 2017-2018, Release 2.0 Reposted with Updated IE Requirement for FAA Access to CPS Online Interface

To address a change in the minimum Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) version requirement for accessing Federal Student Aid websites, we have posted an updated version of EDExpress for Windows 2017-2018, Release 2.0, on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) website, located at https://fsadownload.ed.gov.

The FAA Access to CPS Online website has been updated to require use of Internet Explorer version 11 or higher. As described in an October 31, 2016 Electronic Announcement posted to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website, Federal Student Aid’s transition to secure internet connections requires that users must access all Federal Student Aid websites with Internet Explorer 11 or above, or the current version of other web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).

If you are currently running EDExpress 2017-2018, Release 1.0 (posted in October 2016) or Release 2.0 (posted originally in April 2017) and you want to continue to use the software’s interface with the FAA Access to CPS Online website, you must install the updated version of Release 2.0 we have posted.

Note: If you do not interface with the FAA Access to CPS Online website using EDExpress 2017-2018, you can disregard this updated version of Release 2.0.

Installation Guidance

Before installing the updated Release 2.0, ensure you have a reliable backup copy of your current EDExpress 2017-2018 production database (expres18.mdb).

To install the updated Release 2.0, select the Stand Alone Custom or Workstation Custom option during installation, depending on your EDExpress operating environment. If you are running in a networked environment, run the Workstation Custom installation on each workstation.

If you have not previously installed EDExpress 2017-2018, you can proceed directly to a Stand Alone Full or Network Server/Workstation Full installation of the reposted Release 2.0. Be aware, however, that a Stand Alone Full or Network Server/Workstation Full installation loads a new, blank EDExpress 2017-2018 database to your system. If you have an existing 2017-2018 database, a Stand Alone Full or a Network Server/Workstation Full installation of Release 2.0 will overwrite your database and all previously entered 2017-2018 data will be lost.

The software performs a one-time database update after you first log into EDExpress following installation of the updated Release 2.0. You should allow this process to run and complete.

For more technical guidance and information regarding the EDExpress installation process, see the EDExpress for Windows 2017-2018 Installation Guide, which is available for download from the FSAdownload website.
