Subject: Webinar Recording Titled Disaster Relief - Guidance for Helping Title IV Participants Affected by a Major Disaster is Available on Department’s Website

On September 13, 2017 officials from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) presented a webinar to institutions impacted by Hurricane Harvey. This webinar provided an overview and update of ED’s guidance and ongoing assistance related to Hurricane Harvey. Since this information could be beneficial to others impacted by subsequent hurricanes, we have posted the video, transcript, and presentation slides from that webinar on the IFAP Disaster Information web site located at https://ifap.ed.gov/ifap/disaster.jsp.

We also remind the community of a September 22, 2017 Dear Colleague Letter in which ED provides guidance to State educational agencies, local educational agencies, Bureau of Indian Education-funded schools, postsecondary institutions and other Department grantees and program participants with operational flexibility necessary to continue operations as they recover from extended school or program closures due to a disaster.

Please continue to reach out to the Department as you assess the damage incurred by the storms and your institution’s recovery needs. We appreciate the significant work you have done and we continue to keep the students and families affected by the recent hurricanes in our thoughts.
