This Internship position is located in the Department of Education, Federal Student Aid (FSA). FSA administers funds for Federal Student financial Assistance to help students and families pay for the cost of postsecondary education. FSA is the nation’s largest source of postsecondary education financial aid. FSA educates students and families about the process for obtaining aid, processes millions of aid applications, and disburses billions of aid dollars. FSA administers billions of dollars in existing guaranteed loans, services tens of millions of accounts, and partners with schools, financial institutions and guaranty agencies to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse.

DUTIES:

As an Office Automation Clerk (Pathways Student Trainee), GS-399-4, you will perform the following duties:

  • Utilizing automation software to prepare spreadsheets, charts, graphs, etc.
  • Developing correspondence from brief instructions as to content of by adapting previously prepared material.
  • Compiling data for preparation and typing of assigned reports, completion of forms or other material as may relate to work request.
  • Reviewing incoming correspondence, reports; and work requests to determine deadline requirements and proper routing from personal determinations; or, as otherwise indicated.
  • Receiving visitors and telephone callers.
  • Filing correspondence, varied reports and records; and, maintaining files of directives, policies, administrative and technical guides/references; and, office material or publications as required.
  • Performing duties to maintain a smooth flow of work which may include the following: making travel arrangements; setting up conferences; obtaining office supplies; compiling/maintaining working reference aids or records maintaining status records of assignments; costs and workload.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In order to meet basic eligibility requirements for this Expected Service Pathways Internship appointment, applicants must meet the definition of a “Student” at the time of appointment and throughout the duration of the appointment. All FSA Pathways Interns are expected to start on February 21, 2017, and work until March 2, 2018. Student means an individual who has been accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution, on a full or half-time basis (as defined by the institution in which the student is enrolled), including awardees of the Harry S. Truman Foundation Scholarship Program under Public Law 93-842. Students need not be in actual physical attendance, so long as all other requirements are met. An individual who needs to complete less than the equivalent of half academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this program.
