Getting Started - Help Navigating IFAP

The list below contains links that address student and parent audience looking for loan and grant information and servicing.

Student & Parent Links - Programs

  • Direct Consolidation Loans

These programs simplify loan repayment by combining several types of Federal education loans (that may have different terms and repayment schedules or may have been made by different lenders) into one new loan. The interest rate may be lower than on one or more of the underlying loans. In addition, the monthly payment amount on a consolidation loan is usually lower and the amount of time to repay may be extended beyond what was available in the separate loan programs. These features should result in more manageable debt, and make borrowers less prone to default.

  • Direct Loans - Students

Part of the Direct Loan website, this link provides direct access to the Student page where borrowers and parents can find Direct Loan information and publications as well as an interactive repayment calculator.

  • Federal Student Aid Ombudsman

This link provides information regarding the Ombudsman Group. The Ombudsman Group is a final resource after individuals look for help through other customer service avenues. Before contacting the Ombudsman, borrowers concerned about student loans should contact their loan holder.

  • StudentLoans.gov

This website allows individuals to complete online Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and a Direct Loan electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Direct Subsidized Loans, Direct Unsubsidized Loans, and/or Direct PLUS Loans. Direct PLUS Loan borrowers can complete a request for a Direct PLUS Loan and initiate a credit check online. Direct PLUS Loan endorsers can complete an online Endorser Addendum. Electronic loan correspondence and links to other tools and resources can be viewed on this website.

  • TEACH Grant

This website allows Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant recipients to complete TEACH Grant initial and subsequent counseling. In addition, this website allows recipients to complete a TEACH Grant Agreement to Serve (ATS).

  • Teacher Cancellation Low Income Directory

This directory allows post-secondary institutions to determine whether or not a teacher who received a Federal Perkins Loan, Direct Loan, or Federal Family Education Loan at their school is eligible to receive a loan cancellation as provided under Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.
